About Biryani By Kilo

Biryani By Kilo was started by Kaushik Roy and Vishal Jindal in 2015. It is a Gurugram based cloud kitchen. Today they have 50+ outlets in 22+ cities in India. They are also growing their presence internationally.

Biryani By Kilo has one of the best biryani in Delhi NCR. Their other items, like kebab, phirni, etc., are also delicious. But for me, their USP is their delivery model and their contribution to a social cause.

You can directly order from their website here. Biryani By Kilo doesn’t rely on third-party delivery (like Zomato, etc.), but they deliver themselves. This way, they ensure the best delivery. Their food is always hot when dispatched to you. They serve their biryani in a handi with angeethis, which gives an authentic feel.

Their contribution to the social cause is also commendable. Biryani By Kilo has an inclusive and environment-friendly approach. They work closely with potters and get their handis made from them. They also have Sponsor Biryani for Orphan Children programme. You can sponsor biryani for orphan children at half price, and Biryani Ky Kilo will distribute the biryani on your behalf.

Their handis are of such good quality that I plant my evergreens in them after using and washing them. You can also use them for other crafts project.

The place truly offers a royal feast by the kilo, and if you are a fan of flavoursome traditional Nizami delights, Biryani by kilo is a must-visit for you.

My review of Biryani By Kilo Gurugram (Gurgaon)

I have always had a keen love for traditional and authentic treats. When I am eating authentic cuisines, the dishes shed light on our exuberant culture and heritage. Of all the types, Nizami food is at the top of my list and Biryani By Kilo is one of the best Nizami food outlets in Gurugram (Gurgaon).

Biryani in itself is a wholesome meal for me. It has flavour and aroma and goes well with raita, kebab, chutney etc. Biryani is delicious and filling. Biryani By Kilo has one of the best biryanis in Gurugram (Gurgaon).

I have ordered so many times from them that I don’t even remember. All the outlets that I have tried have a consistent taste. Their food items are always fresh.

Their cooks are doing a great job, but I think their management is tremendous and enviable. My kudos to the entire team of Biryani By Kilo.

Location: Ease of access and surroundings

I frequently visited Biryani By Kilo (BBK) in DLF Phase 1 Gurugram, but recently I have been ordering online. Biryani By Kilo restaurant is conveniently located with its flashy, golden lights shimmering through the glass exteriors. The rustic wooden doors and eye-catching title are stitched in electric lighting over a dark brown board.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, most of their outlets are closed for dine-in. So check if the restaurant is open before you plan a visit.

I have always found their restaurants conveniently located. However, it can get crowded on busy nights, so parking at times can be a problem. However, the experience depends on the location of the restaurant that you plan to visit. I have eaten at three of their outlets and found the experience consistent.

Ambience: Look and feel of the place

Our Rating:

Biryani By Kilo prides itself on providing an authentic experience. Therefore every restaurant of theirs has cultivated a warm, cosy, but royal feel to it.

Everything from lamps, walls, flooring to curtains, ceilings, and seating arrangements is designed traditionally, just as our Nizami kingdoms were decorated.

The leisure dining experience combined with heavenly aromas creates a soothing, calm vibe. The wooden articulation studded on walls with sparkly warm golden lights is like a calming hug. Some stores have ancient manuscripts pasted and painted on walls.

Everything looks great, but I’m not too fond of their tables. For me, it is the odd one out. Maybe it is a coincidence (it is not), but most of the times I have visited their restaurant, the table has some issue or other. If at all possible, then they should get better quality tables that match their aura. It feels like BBK have saved their money on the table. 😄

Service: Staff and their service

Our Rating:

Biryani By Kilo’s staff is very cordial and friendly. Their professionalism is unparalleled.

The staff tries their best to solve any query of yours. In one of my early visits to BBK restaurant with my family, my dad wanted green chutney that was of homemade style. I felt awkward in asking them and told my dad to have the chutney they were offering. But my dad called the manager and said to him that he didn’t like the chutney. Immediately the cook came and spoke to my dad and understood what he wanted. In ten minutes, the chutney came, and my dad enjoyed it thoroughly. The service indeed makes a grand impression on the customers.

BBK is implementing all hygiene and safety practices in these challenging times of this pandemic to keep you and your food safe.

The service is quick and praiseworthy. BBK is indeed committed to delivering a royal dining experience.

Our Rating:

Biryani By Kilo caters for a versatile Nizami menu in which you savour all kinds of biryanis in one place, along with flavoursome kebabs, kormas and iconic phirnis too.

The menu offers elaborate varieties of Hyderabadi, Lucknowi and Kolkata biryani. Hyderabadi biryani is served along with salan, whereas Lucknowi and Kolkata biryanis are served with raitas alongside.

Along with biryanis, the restaurant also serves kormas and curries. They provide rich Nizami curries to go with ulte tawa ka paratha or with biryani. Paneer nawabi and Chicken korma are some of the must-try.

The menu offers various combo deals and celebration packs that save you bucks. Platters in both veg and non-veg categories are also available, along with soft beverages.

I find the BBK menu to be wholesome. They have variety but not too much that it would confuse you. You can get home delivery from Zomato or order directly from their website.

Cost: Pricing and value for money

Our Rating:

Biryani By Kilo ensures that you get an authentic Nizami food experience. For this authentic experience, they leave no stones unturned. For example, they use two-year-old rice for their biryani, or they get their spices from Kerala.

1 (one) kg biryani can serve 2-3 people, and 1/2 (half) kg biryani is good for 1-2 people. The 1/2 kg vegetarian biryani cost is ₹350, chicken biryani is ₹450, and mutton biryani is ₹650. Their curries cost ₹450 and kebabs cost ₹500. Prices change based on availability and cost of ingredients. So please check their menu for the latest pricing.

They also have platters and celebration packages containing a variety of dishes.

Food from Biryani By Kilo is expensive as compared to others. But they have great ROI. The quality, taste and presentation are unmatched. So if you can afford it, BBK will give you your money’s worth and much more.

Taste: Overall taste and quality of the food item

Our Rating:

Cooking an authentic biryani is not a one-step process. To deliver an authentic Nizami biryani, you need to use high-quality ingredients and follow Nizam’s original procedure for making an authentic biryani. BBK’s cooks have aced this process, and all their dishes are delicious. Their phirni is my favourite. 😍

All biryanis are not the same. They have Hyderabadi, Lucknowi and Kolkata biryanis.

The Hyderabadi or Nizami biryani involves cooking rice and meat separately, and then they both are layered together. It contains onions, saffron and dry fruits. It is aromatic and punchy in flavour.
The Lucknowi or Awadhi biryani involves cooking rice and meat separately, layering them in the deep-bottomed vessel, and cooking on slow fire for hours (dum pukht).
The Kolkata biryani is similar to Awadhi biryani but is a little bit sweeter and light in spices.

So ensure you order the right kind of biryani that suits your palette. My favourite is gosht Hyderabadi biryani. It is aromatic, fluffy and not oily at all.

Biryani By Kilo’s mutton galouti kebabs is one of the best in Gurugram (Gurgaon). They are soft, mouth-watering and genuinely delicious.

I am in love with their mutka phirnis. It is thick in consistency and yummy. My mouth is watering thinking about it.

Conclusion and recommendation

If you are a biryani or Nizami food lover and you have not tried Biryani By Kilo, then you are missing out.

I would 100% recommend you to visit their restaurant. The service and ambience that they offer are worth it.

Order at home and experience what a good delivery of food feels like. It will change your expectation and view of food home delivery.
