About Behrouz biryani

The word ‘Behrouz’ is of Persian origin, loosely translating to ‘prosperous’ or ‘success’. The Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) has been picking up in urban India, and biryani is the food of choice. So Anuroop Nair picked up this love for the royal feast, enabled it with technology, and started Behrouz Biryani as a cloud kitchen.

One of their exciting marketing strategies is their made-up story describing a war between two ancient Persian kingdoms. It was not a war of riches but a war of biryanis. Voiced by Raza Murad, it’s simply amazing!

My review of Behrouz Biryani Gurugram (Gurgaon)

Since the tedious waves of the pandemic and the resulting lockdowns, my friends and I hang most of the time indoors. Hence, to avoid ordering food twice or thrice a day, we prefer a wholesome and complete meal like biryani to leisure upon. Also, who would ever say no to biryani!

We decided to try out and experience all the hype that is about Behrouz biryani. We ordered from their South city-2 outlet as it’s the closest Behrouz Biryani near me.

I ordered a Shaan sized Murg tikka biryani and a dum gosht biryani (based on google recommendations), which came along with complimentary pudina raita and gulab jamun.

I have ordered three times from their South City-2 out, and I found the experience as average compared to other options.

Location: Ease of access and surroundings

Since they are a cloud kitchen, Behrouz biryani offers only delivery services from their outlets. Currently, they have eleven outlets in Gurugram (Gurgaon).

Ambience: Look and feel of the place

Behrouz Biryani does not have a dine-in option. All their outlets in India only have delivery options.

Service: Staff and their service

Our Rating:

The first time I ordered from them, it got delayed. Moreover, my salan, raita and dessert got all mixed up, and it was a mess! I did complain about this negligence.

I must say, their staff was kind and helpful. They assured me that it wouldn’t happen again. It hasn’t happened to me again, but the same has happened with my friends.

Their delivery service has room for improvement as compared to other options like Biryani By Kilo.

Our Rating:

Behrouz biryani offers a versatile assortment of biryanis to choose from. Also, there are quite many varieties of vegetarian options too.

Along with biryanis, they also serve kebabs. They don’t have many options, for starters.

They serve three sizes, namely Shahi, Shaan and Alishaan, with a serving capacity of one, two and four to five people, respectively.

Their menu has a different section for Hyderabadi biryanis. I find these to be a bit spicy. If you like spicy Hyderabadi biryanis, then give these a try!

They also offer combo packs like Mehfil-e-Behrouz. If you’re having a party with many people, then ordering these combo packs will save you money.

Their famous dishes are Dum gosht biryani, paneer subz biryani, subz-e-biryani, and lazeez bhuna murgh biryani.

Behrouz biryani claims that they use a secret masala recipe for their biryanis.

They have good options for the Hyderabadi biryani lovers out there. Maybe they can consider adding more items to their starters list.

Cost: Pricing and value for money

Our Rating:

In my experience, their cost is on the premium side.

The Shahi serve costs above ₹300 and is not enough to quench my brother’s appetite.

The Shaan serve costs above ₹500, and Alishaan costs above ₹1000.

Their portion size is also not consistent amongst different orders.

I don’t find good ROI (return on investment) when ordering from them. Other options are cheaper and have a better ROI.

Taste: Overall taste and quality of the food item

Our Rating:

I saw their advertisement on YouTube, and I was impressed with their story. They have a great marketing team.

Despite the buzz, their taste is on the average side for me.

The chicken biryani that I tried was cooked well, though the handful of dry fruits like raisins, cashews and almonds made it too sweet, which overpowered the real taste of chicken biryani.

I must admit I have not tried all their outlets. I mainly ordered from their South City-2 outlet. And their taste has not been consistent.

I wish their food tasted as good as their advertisements.

Conclusion and recommendation

Behrouz biryani is an acquired taste. I am sure there are many out there who would love it. I am not one of them.

In addition to adding more varieties to their menu, they should also make their taste and portion size consistent.

Their delivery team needs to get better.

What do I enjoy?

  • Their marketing and the whole aura that they have created around the brand.
  • They have a versatile options of biryanis.
  • Their complimentary raita and dessert.
  • They have a good quality of packaging.

What can be improved?

  • Their delivery service.
  • More options in their menu.
  • Consistency in taste and size of the portion.
  • Overall pricing.

Final Thoughts

You should first understand if the type of food that the restaurant is serving is as per your liking or not before passing any opinions on the restaurant. For example, if you don’t like the sound of the sitar, then you will not enjoy its sound even if Pandit Ravi Shankar is playing.

I am not a big fan of spicy Hyderabadi food. So I didn’t enjoy any of my three experiences ordering from Behrouz Biryani. From my perspective, they have many areas where they need to up their game.

My friends who do enjoy ordering from them have also recently been complaining of their declining experiences. Being such a significant and growing brand, I am sure they pay attention to all the reviews and take corrective action.

But if you love spicy Hyderabadi biryani, then ignore what I am saying. Give Behrouz a try! you might enjoy it.
