My review of Fat Butterfly Gurugram (Gurgaon)

I am, though self-proclaimed, one of the biggest foodies ever. So, I am constantly on the lookout for new places to try and foods to devour.

I luckily stumbled upon this then-newly-opened bakery on the hunt for a birthday cake. To this date, not once have I had second thoughts about an order here – everything is that great.

The cuisine Fat Butterfly serves includes baked dishes, Italian, Fast Food, Continental, and Bakery Desserts.

The café has a very calm, pleasing aura that lifts your spirits the moment you enter. True to its name, the décor includes soothing butterflies painted over the walls.

There is enough space to accommodate about ten people. An assortment of baked treats on display will surely make your mouth water instantly.

Location: Ease of access and surroundings

Fat Butterfly café is on Sohna Road in Baani Square Mall, Sector 50, Gurugram. It is a 10-15 minutes drive to the bakery from locations like Malibu Town, Sushant Lok, Nirvana, etc.

If you are looking for the best bakeries on Sohna Road, then Fat Butterfly should surely be on your list.

The cafe is on the first floor of Baani Square mall and is easily recognisable. Its vibrant décor with soothing blue and white tones at the entrance will make you want to go in instantly.

With a glass door that gives you, a peek of the delicacies lying inside, stepping in becomes inevitable.

Much like a butterfly lured by a pretty, treat of a flower. 🦋🌸

Ambience: Look and feel of the place

Our Rating:

You can feel the warmth of the café as soon as you enter the door. While it looks beautiful from the outside, it is much more pretty from the inside.

At the entrance is a display of assorted, mouth-watering cakes and pastries. There is a seating arrangement for about eight people on the ground floor.

Hues of blue, turquoise and yellows wash the interiors. These colours lend the café a very youthful and cheerful look.

Aesthetically built stairs at the corner lead you to the floor above for dine-in. The café feels like a tiny, cosy, safe space filled with treats.

I love hanging out there when it’s just me and my books. The floor above gives me a butterfly and cheesecake filled solitude that I’ve always wished for.

Service: Staff and their service

Our Rating:

Fat Butterfly has one of the kindest and the warmest staff that I’ve come across. The staff is very welcoming and puts you in a merry mood instantly.

They followed my requests to the best of their ability, and I received the best suggestions. The staff had the perfect answer to every query.

The service provided made a grand impression on me the very first time I went to the cafe. I have been in awe of their professionalism ever since.

My order was served in due time and the service was smooth throughout.

Our Rating:

The menu offers a wide range of non-vegetarian and vegetarian delicacies.

Crispy Chicken tenders for appetisers are my way to go. The Chef’s special BLT sandwich is another great way to begin your delicious meal.

While the cafe is more popular for its desserts, I believe they also serve some of the best burgers in Gurugram.

The Minted lamb and Jalapeno burger are a complete trip to heaven. Grilled Pineapple And Chicken Burger is also a lip-smacking treat.

Apart from burgers, I almost always end up ordering the Peri-peri grilled chicken with some Veg Lasagne. The various options of pasta are also worth giving a shot.

They also serve soups, all-day breakfast, pancakes and waffles.

Unfortunately, they do not offer vegan or gluten-free choices. They also do not have a lot of eggless options. However, you can talk to them about special preparations.

Finally, there is no better way to end the meal than with a slice of Blueberry Cheesecake. One can also try the fluffy pancakes with maple syrup.

While for the most part, they serve good portions, the quantity of some items can feel less than expected.

Overall, the variety on the menu is pretty good, especially if you are a non-veg lover. I am pretty satisfied with the menu selection.

Cost: Pricing and value for money

Our Rating:

Most of the best cafe in Gurugram are on the expensive side. Unsurprisingly, Fat Butterfly is not an exception.

However, the price is well worth the experience even if it is in the premium territory.

Beverages range between ₹150 to ₹250. Appetisers average at ₹300 with main course meals ranging from ₹300 to ₹500.

Most sandwiches and burgers cost more than ₹400, but they are extremely filling and mouthful.

They also have a range called Chrysalis Burgers which are more nominally priced under ₹250.

But I’d still recommend you go with the big burgers as they are the best.

On the positive side, desserts and cakes are perfectly priced. Most pastries are in the 200’s range. Cakes usually cost ₹600-₹800 for 1/2kg and ₹1,000 to ₹1,400 for 1kg.

They take special orders for designer cakes which require a minimum of 3 days to 1-week booking in advance.

The premium designer cakes can easily cost more than ₹1,800 for 1kg, but they are extremely well crafted. I highly recommend those.

In conclusion, a meal for two usually ends up costing ₹1600-1800 (including taxes). However, it can easily cost more with plenty of appetisers, desserts and beverages.

Overall, I’d say the pricing is something that can be improved to attract more cost-sensitive customers.

Taste: Overall taste and quality of the food item

Our Rating:

Every single dish that I’ve had at the cafe has managed to exceed expectations. Be it the awesome sauce of the pasta or the curry of the chicken.

As I mentioned previously, their burgers are some of the best, with tender and juicy patties.

The lasagne is also pretty good, especially with some crispy chicken tenders. To board off the spice train, any dessert that you pick will be the perfect ending.

The bakery has some of the most well-prepared desserts that I’ve had. The pancakes are unimaginably soft and made to perfection. They almost melt in the mouth and blow the mind.

The cakes, again, are well-prepared, and the frosting is heavenly. Nutella cake is my personal favourite. I could live on it for the rest of my life.

I’ve also had the Red Velvet cake on many occasions and highly recommend it. Your taste buds will thank you for tasting them.

The menu could do with a little more eggless and vegetarian options, though.

All in all, the taste, the vibe and the dining make it worth the money for me. I always end up having a great meal and time whenever I visit.

Conclusion and recommendation

I 100/100 recommend the experience of dining at the Fat Butterfly bakery and café. The bakery, cuisine and atmosphere are worth every praise.

What do I enjoy?

  • The non-vegetarian dishes are binge-eatable.
  • The charming vibe and décor of the cafe.
  • The All-day breakfast options are wide, and all are equally good.
  • The Nutella cake is as good as a cake can get.
  • Burgers.
  • Some of the best pancakes I’ve ever had.

What can be improved?

  • The menu could do with some more vegetarian options.
  • The options for eggless foods are limited.
  • Prices are on the premium side.
  • The portions of the food can be slightly increased.
  • No gluten-free or vegan selections are available yet.

Fat Butterfly has always managed to send me home with a happy stomach. I’ve introduced the café to many of my friends, and they too love it.

It is one of the best bakeries and cafes in Gurugram and one of my personal favourites too.

A foodie or not, everyone should give it a try, at least once. Once you do, you won’t need any convincing to go back again. It will become inevitable to recommend and share your experience with others. Pretty much like a… butterfly effect
